Arizona Congresswoman Yassamin Ansari visited an ICE detention center in Eloy over the weekend, a month after she was reportedly denied access.
Ansari says multiple detainees described poor conditions while there, including over-chlorinated drinking water, and infections from used underwear.
Ansari says there were also reports of poor medical care.
“I spoke with more than two dozen women, one woman in particular, she has leukemia, she has been there for five months. She has lost 55 pounds, and she has still not been able to see a specialist,” Ansari said.
Ansari’s July tour attempt was denied due to a new rule requiring lawmakers to provide 72-hour notice of a detention center visit.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement has not commented.
