PHOENIX, AZ – Defend The Vote (DTV) today endorsed former Phoenix Vice Mayor and City Councilwoman Yassamin Ansari for the House of Representatives from Arizona’s Third District for her commitment to protecting our freedoms and strengthening democracy.

Executive Director Brian Lemek issued the following statement:

“In this election, our freedoms are on the line. Yassamin Ansari is up to the task of protecting them. She will defend the freedom to vote and to ensure that our democracy truly represents the people, not just corporate special interests.”

Yassamin Ansari issued the following statement:

“As the daughter of immigrants, my parents taught me to never take democracy for granted. In Congress, I look forward to partnering with Defend the Vote to protect our voting rights and ensure that our democracy works for everyone.”

Yassamin is committed to working in the House of Representatives on protecting and expanding the right to vote, ending dark money, and ensuring democracy works for everyone. She supports the Freedom to Vote Act and John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act as well as funding for local election workers to run safe and accessible elections without threat of harassment or intimidation and to prevent the spread of misinformation.

Defend The Vote has emerged as one of the nation’s leading and most influential pro-democracy organizations. It is dedicated to electing pro-voting rights candidates, up and down the ballot, who will preserve our democracy by fighting to safeguard free and fair elections, protect the right to vote, and increase voter access. Last cycle, DTV helped elect 55 pro-democracy House candidates and five Senate candidates.

We won!

It’s hard to put my feelings into words. I’m elated, of course — but more than that, I’m honored, I’m inspired, and I’m deeply grateful.

This historic victory belongs to all of us. It belongs to everyone in our Phoenix and Glendale community who believed in a progressive future and went to work for it.

This victory is the product of more than 165,000 doors knocked in the pouring rain and the blistering heat. It’s the result of over 25,000 phone calls, and nearly $2 million contributed by folks from every walk of life.

We won this primary election without a dime of corporate PAC money. We ran a campaign on progressive policies and real results. And we’re just getting started.

Now, we turn our attention to November. Turning out the vote here in Maricopa County is on the critical path to victory — and we’ve got our work cut out. Can I count on you to join us in this next chapter?
