PHOENIX, AZ – Today, GIFFORDS PAC announced their support for former Phoenix Vice Mayor and City Councilwoman Yassamin Ansari in the race for Arizona’s Third Congressional District.

Former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords issued the following statement:

“Americans are sick and tired of the high levels of gun violence plaguing our nation and fed up with the Republican majority’s inaction in Congress on this life or death issue. Guns are now the number one killer of children and too many families have been torn apart by our epidemic of violence. This is unacceptable and it won’t change unless we have leaders in Congress who are willing to put the lives of their constituents before the will of the gun lobby.

That’s why GIFFORDS PAC is proud to endorse former Vice Mayor Yassamin Ansari today. It is critical that Arizonans send Yassamin Ansari to Congress to help us win back a gun safety majority in the House of Representatives that will take concrete action to save lives — from expanding background checks to strengthening safe storage measures designed to keep deadly weapons out of the hands of our children. This is a critical time in our nation’s history and I’m proud to support Yassamin  Ansari because she will always stand up for what’s right.”

Yassamin Ansari issued the following statement:

“This country must confront the fact that in the developed world, our devastating levels of gun violence are a uniquely American epidemic. Congress has the power to make common sense policy decisions that could quite literally save the lives of children, and thus far they have blatantly neglected that responsibility and chosen to support the gun lobby.

I am proud to have the support of GIFFORDS because this endorsement represents a shared interest in standing up for the safety and well-being of Arizona’s communities, ensuring that they are protected from the devastating impacts of gun violence. In Congress, I will advocate for a comprehensive approach that includes an assault weapons ban, increasing the legal age of purchase to 21, strengthening background checks, and closing loopholes for individuals with records of violent crimes. By implementing these measures, we can work towards a safer, more secure home for all Arizonans.”

We won!

It’s hard to put my feelings into words. I’m elated, of course — but more than that, I’m honored, I’m inspired, and I’m deeply grateful.

This historic victory belongs to all of us. It belongs to everyone in our Phoenix and Glendale community who believed in a progressive future and went to work for it.

This victory is the product of more than 165,000 doors knocked in the pouring rain and the blistering heat. It’s the result of over 25,000 phone calls, and nearly $2 million contributed by folks from every walk of life.

We won this primary election without a dime of corporate PAC money. We ran a campaign on progressive policies and real results. And we’re just getting started.

Now, we turn our attention to November. Turning out the vote here in Maricopa County is on the critical path to victory — and we’ve got our work cut out. Can I count on you to join us in this next chapter?
