Laborers’ International Union of North America, Local Unions 777 & 1184 endorse Councilwoman Yassamin Ansari

PHOENIX, AZ – Today, Laborers’ Union (LiUNA!) Locals 777 & 1184 announced their support for Phoenix City Councilwoman Yassamin Ansari in the race for Arizona’s Third Congressional District. This announcement shows continued momentum for a campaign that announced a two-to-one fundraising advantage in 2023 and several major labor endorsements including Arizona Pipe Trades – UA Local 469, Carpenters Local 1912, and International Association of Firefighters.

Michael Dea, Business Manager and Secretary-Treasurer of LiUNA! Local 1184 said:

“We appreciate her tenacity for the prevailing wage in the City of Phoenix. We applaud her commitment to the community and look forward to working with her.”

After becoming the youngest woman elected to the Phoenix City Council in 2021, Ansari began working tirelessly on behalf of working families in Phoenix. Last month, the Councilwoman helped lead the way to make Phoenix the first city in Arizona to pass a prevailing wage ordinance.

Victor Gordo, Business Manager & Secretary-Treasurer, issued the following statement:

“LiUNA Local 777 is proud to endorse Councilwoman Yassamin Ansari. After delivering for working families and our members at the City Council, we’re confident that she will continue to be a champion for us in Washington.”

LiUNA! Local Unions 777 and 1184 represent more than 10,000 working women, men and them fighting for better wages, benefits and safer job sites throughout Southern California and Arizona.

We won!

It’s hard to put my feelings into words. I’m elated, of course — but more than that, I’m honored, I’m inspired, and I’m deeply grateful.

This historic victory belongs to all of us. It belongs to everyone in our Phoenix and Glendale community who believed in a progressive future and went to work for it.

This victory is the product of more than 165,000 doors knocked in the pouring rain and the blistering heat. It’s the result of over 25,000 phone calls, and nearly $2 million contributed by folks from every walk of life.

We won this primary election without a dime of corporate PAC money. We ran a campaign on progressive policies and real results. And we’re just getting started.

Now, we turn our attention to November. Turning out the vote here in Maricopa County is on the critical path to victory — and we’ve got our work cut out. Can I count on you to join us in this next chapter?
