[Phoenix, July 11, 2023] – Phoenix Vice Mayor, Yassamin Ansari, raises over $504k in the first quarter of her Congressional campaign, all without taking a cent from Corporate PACs. This fundraising number is historic in that it sets the quarterly fundraising record for this congressional district. A review of FEC finance reports going back to 1992 (first cycle FEC reports) indicates no incumbent or candidate has raised this much money in a quarter for this congressional district. Ansari’s donors include local teachers, social workers, public defenders, housing advocates, small business owners, nurses and many others representing the grassroots of Arizona and beyond. Of all Ansari’s donations, 50 percent of them were $50 or less and 60 percent were $100 or less.
“I am incredibly humbled and grateful to our early supporters in helping our campaign make fundraising history in our district,” Vice Mayor Ansari said. “This is only the beginning and as we ramp up our campaign, we will build off of this unprecedented milestone. We spend a considerable amount of time connecting with people across the state and the country in order to ensure that we can communicate with as many voters across the district as possible. It’s important that I hear directly from the people on what’s important to them and their families. Arizona deserves a leader that understands the urgency of this moment and who will get things done. I intend on being that leader – and I look forward to earning their support first – and I hope this is our first step in doing so.”
In addition to earning the endorsements of local leaders like State Senator Flavio Bravo and State Representative Stacey Travers, Ansari’s historic fundraising haul truly underscores her grassroots momentum. Her people-powered campaign and policy wins for her community while on the Phoenix City Council proves she is prepared to serve in the United States Congress. Ansari continues her commitment to delivering good jobs, climate action, safe communities and affordable housing to working families across Arizona.
